Find the 10 common mistakes

Take a look at these ten sentences, there is one mistake in each one. Can you find all of them? Write your correct sentences in the comments area.

1) A lot of the people is angry with the government’s decision.
2) She play guitar in a local band.
3) I taked a hot shower before I went to bed.
4) Danny and me were late to the meeting.
5) James gave me some good advise.
6) My daughter said she saw a strange dream last night.
7) Your the funniest person I have ever met!
8) I am borrowing my friends car for the whole of next week.
9) Drive ten miles East and then call me.
10) She sat besides me on the train.




Hide Sentences

1) A lot of the people are angry with the government’s decision. – People is countable so use are.

2) She plays guitar in a local band. – plays not not play. Add s to the base verb when the subject is he/she/it.

3) I took a hot shower before I went to bed. taked is not a word. The past simple tense of take is took.

4) Danny and I were late to the meeting. – The subject of the sentence is Danny and I. You would say, ‘I was late for the meeting’ not ‘Me was late for the meeting’.

5) James gave me some good advice. – Advice is a noun, advise is a verb.

6) My daughter said she had a strange dream last night. – We said ‘had a dream’, not ‘see a dream’.

7) You’re the funniest person I have ever met! – Your is a possesive as in, ‘is this your pen?’

8) I am borrowing my friend’s car for the whole of next week. – An apostrophe is needed to show whose car we are talking about. To make a possessive we add ‘s.

9) Drive ten miles east and then call me. – East in this case is not a proper noun so it does not need a capital letter.

10) She sat beside me on the train. – Beside means ‘next to’, besides means ‘also’.
